Our Choice to Use ACT or SAT

Federal and state rules about state mandated testing allow districts to choose either the SAT or ACT as the Grade 11 measure of student proficiency in Reading, English Language Arts, and Mathematics.  Hugo Public Schools has chosen the ACT because it is the more common entrance examination used by Oklahoma colleges and universities.  We feel it is a better measure of the accomplishment of the standards that make up the Oklahoma Academic Standards (OAS).  Our curriculum is aligned with the OAS which is aligned with the ACT.  This alignment allows us to focus student learning on college and career readiness in addition to the development of important life skills.  We value the opinions of parents/caregivers of our students as well as other members of our community.  Please email any comments or suggestions about the district’s decision to use the ACT to our District Testing Coordinator, Mrs. Hicks, at lhicks@hugoschools.com.  We welcome your comments in making this decision.  Comments Survey

From Our Superintendent

Hugo Public Schools is located in the historic City of Hugo, Oklahoma in the southeastern part of the state.  We are proud of our heritage and optimistic about our future.  The district is made up of four school sites educating approximately 1350 students.  We are fortunate to have the very best faculty and staff providing students with outstanding curricular and extracurricular learning experiences focused on preparing them for success in life.

Thank you parents and caregivers for entrusting us with the education of your children.  We take our responsibility of engaging all students in meaningful learning every day very seriously.  We believe that education is the path to success in life.  We are honored to be in a partnership with you in providing the very best educational opportunities for your child and for all the children who make up Hugo Public Schools.

Dr. Brandy Blalock, Superintendent of Hugo Public Schools

Educating Children Who Are Homeless

Hugo Public Schools faculty and staff work together to ensure a welcoming environment for students who are homeless.  We strive to facilitate academic success for these students by giving them the right to remain in one school despite their residential status as well as the ability to access all appropriate educational opportunities and services according to the McKinney-Vento guidelines.
